Seesalt and Missions

Seesalt and Missions (SAM for short) combines the same great Seesalt program with a variety of mission opportunities in the Conway/Myrtle Beach area. Each church will select in advance from a variety of ministry options so you can choose one or more projects suitable for your group’s experience and interests. Past summers’ ministry has included construction work, painting or re-painting low-income homes, yard work, backyard Bible clubs, sports camps, a senior adult center makeover, assistance at regional food banks, beach ministry, ministry at nursing homes, helping at a children’s center, and more.

Mission projects are conducted from mid-morning to mid-afternoon Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in place of Personal Interest Conferences and some recreation activities. SAM provides a great opportunity to help others - while helping your own group at the same time.

Reservation Information

1. The cost for Seesalt And Missions is $275 ($285 after May 1).  These prices includes four nights lodging, ten meals, and program/materials/facilities fee.

2. Note that you will be on your own for dinner during Wednesday's block of free time. Other optional items such as shirts, DVDS, CDs, books, and snack food will be on sale.

3. Reservations are taken on a first-come. A $60 per person deposit is required when making reservations. Remaining balance is due on arrival.

4. If a cancellation is made 60 days in advance of the scheduled week, $30 of the $60 will be refunded. There will be no refund for cancellations made less than 60 days prior to the week. Unused deposits cannot be applied toward remaining balance.

5. A male adult leader is required for each 1-7 boys and a female adult leader is required for each 1-7 girls.  Additional adult leaders beyond this ratio are welcomed and encouraged, especially if your group requires more than average supervision. Adult leaders should be responsible, maturing Christians age 21 or older who can provide proper supervision of their students.  They must agree to support and enforce conference regulations. Adult leaders will be rooming with students, so husbands and wives will not be able to room together.

6. Conference participants must have completed the sixth grade in school. Anyone younger than this, including children of adult leaders must NOT be brought. We reserve the right to send underage children home at the church’s expense with no refund.  College-age students may attend and will have two options. If they are not considered adult leaders, they will be in a Bible study group for those who have graduated from high school. If they are considered adult leaders, they will participate in adult leader programming.

7. Lodging will be in college dormitory rooms. Participants need to bring linens, pillows, towels, toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, soap, shampoo, casual clothes, shoes appropriate for active recreation, Bible, pen, spending money, and good attitudes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Will our church group be working together?

A: In most cases, yes. You will provide your won transportation to and from the mission sites, and your church’s adult leaders will help supervise (and have the opportunity to work alongside) your own students. Depending on the size of your group, you may also be working with other church groups on the same project.

Q: Who will be supervising the mission projects?

A: It depends on the specific project. Projects will be arranged by a variety of people and organizations in the Conway/Myrtle Beach area. In some situations, they will also be providing some direct leadership for those working. SAM staff will also help give direction. However, in all situations your students will remain under the supervision of adult leaders from your church.

Q: What about lunch on those days that we are doing mission projects?

A: Bag lunches will be provided by the Coastal Carolina dining hall.

Q: What will determine our mission project assignments?

A: After making reservations for Seesalt and Missions, each church will be given a list and explanation of possible mission projects. Each church will then select their desired area of work. The choice of projects will be confirmed in advance.

Q: Can our group participate in more than one mission project?

A: Possibly. It will primarily depend on your ability to provide transportation to more than one site at the same time. If you have more than one vehicle. you could (for example) take part of your group to a construction site and take those riding in a different vehicle to a backyard Bible club site.

Q: What will we need to bring?

A: Again, it will depend on the project. In most cases, materials such as paint and construction materials will be provided for you, but you will probably need to bring such things as tools, paint brushes, and maybe ladders. For projects such as backyard Bible clubs, you will probably bring study materials, crafts, recreation equipment, etc.

Q: When will training occur?

A: Each individual church will be responsible for conducting their own training for projects that require advanced preparation (such as backyard Bible clubs, sports camps, etc). Groups will also have a brief missions orientation session Monday afternoon after arriving at Seesalt and Missions.

Q: Aside from the addition of mission projects, how will the SAM program differ from regular weeks of Seesalt?

A: The mission work will take the place of Personal Interest Conferences, some of the group recreation, and some free time. Each night during the evening service there will be a highlight video of that day's projects along with reports from student and adult participants. The rest of the program will be the same (including the program staff).
